Getting leaders to commit to childhood immunization | UNICEF
“Everybody needs to go through it to see the impact of vaccination on the well-being of children.” That’s what people had to say after visiting “Countdown for Change,” UNICEF’s exclusive immersive installation showing the world’s progress in protecting children from deadly diseases and infections through vaccines. The installation - which is currently in Nigeria - has already generated commitments from government health leaders around the world at the World Health Assembly earlier this year. Across more than 190 countries and territories, we do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. The world’s largest provider of vaccines, we support child health and nutrition, safe water and sanitation, quality education and skill building, HIV prevention and treatment for mothers and babies, and the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation. Before, during and after humanitarian emergencies, UNICEF is on the ground, bringing lifesaving help and hope to children and families. Non-political and impartial, we are never neutral when it comes to defending children’s rights and safeguarding their lives and futures. And we never give up.

Yemen’s Skies of Terror
Akram is only 15 years old but has already lost a friend. His neighbors were killed when an air raid by the Saudi-led coalition hit their house in the old city of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. Yemen’s Skies of Terror, an immersive film by Contrast VR, provides a rare glimpse of life inside Yemen. Thousands of airstrikes have fallen on the country, and Akram’s story is only one of many. Follow Akram, 7-year-old Wedad, and 17-year-old Abu Bakr as they take you through three different years of airstrikes and show how their lives have been impacted. Filmed by local journalists equipped with 360-degree cameras, the film fills the gap in today’s media narrative - the toll that the war in Yemen is taking on those who must live in constant fear of the skies. Winter, Leave | VR 360º in Skopje, Macedonia
“By breathing this air, we are slowly dying.” Every winter, North Macedonia’s capital, Skopje, becomes enveloped in a smog of pollution, as the concentration of poisonous particles in the air spikes to record heights. The immersive film, Winter, Leave, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, takes the viewer to the center of the Balkan Peninsula. We explore what makes Skopje one of the most polluted cities in Europe. Non-eco friendly residential heating - like burning wood or even plastic - is considered one of the chief contributors to the pollution during the cold winters. Residents struggle to stay warm with high energy costs and poor insulation of the pre-1990s Yugoslav-era buildings. In tandem two parallel worlds unfurl, as we learn how the problems inside the homes correspond to the unfolding crisis outside. Many residents are increasingly frustrated with the pollution. They demand action and answers to why the air is so toxic during Skopje’s winter.

From Waste to Taste | VR 360º in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Brazil produces and exports a lot of food. In fact, it is one of the largest suppliers of agricultural products in the world, third only to the European Union and the United States. Unfortunately, a lot of food in the country is lost even before it reaches supermarkets and homes. Through the virtual reality film From Waste to Taste, you are introduced to chef Rodrigo, a couple, Rosemberg and Maria Celia, and Deise, an alternative cooking teacher, to see how Brazilians are fighting against food waste and teaching future generators about the importance of food waste management. Each of them take their own role in a food management chain that redistributes donated food that would have otherwise been thrown away in Rio de Janeiro.
